Omaha Public Schools – Pine Elementary

This project is a three-story school addition located at the former Grace University site in Omaha, NE.  The addition was wrapped around three sides of the existing student center and gymnasium.  The existing precast concrete student center was stripped down to its superstructure with modifications to complete the intended work.  The 34-foot drop across the site required various foundation and retaining walls.  The new addition was constructed of concrete, masonry and steel framed construction along with a FEMA rated storm shelter.  The shallow concrete foundation system also incorporated an aggregate pier soil reinforcement system and isolated areas of helical piling.  Pine Elementary was awarded Outstanding Design for Elementary Schools in the 2023 Architectural Portfolio in American School & University.
