Architectural Record magazine highlights UNO Elkhorn River Research Facility project Print Email

The University of Nebraska Omaha – Elkhorn River Research Facility project was highlighted in the May, 2012, edition of Architectural Record magazine (LINK).  InfraStructure, LLC worked with Randy Brown Architects to design an elevated research station to gather water samples from the Elkhorn River.  The station is essentially an elevated room where water tanks are installed to store collected water samples from the river for the purpose of quality analyses and other associated water quality research efforts by the University of Nebraska Omaha.  This is the first of several of these stations planned for various waterways throughout eastern Nebraska.

The structure was comprised of a concrete mat foundation supported on driven steel piling.  Cantilevering out of the mat were multiple pipe columns which provide both the vertical and lateral support of the station which rests approximately 12 feet above the bank.  The station is accessed by a long ramp system back to the higher bank area above the floodway elevation.
